How do I configure Zabbix to monitor the file systems I want?

    Hey guys,

I hope everyone is having a good day.

    I have Zabbix installed on CENTOS 6.4 and i'm running Zabbix-Server 2.0.8 and Zabbix-Agent of 1.6.4-1.

When I navigate to Monitoring > Latest Data > Filesystems I am only seeing the disk space for the following:

I have other mounted file systems that I want to monitor. How would I go about adding them?

You are using extremely old agent versions. Zabbix 2.x has the ability to do low-level discovery of interfaces and filesystems automatically, including creating graphs for you.

I would strongly suggest that you upgrade your agents and take advantage of this functionality.

I thought that might be the problem. Any recommendations on the best method to upgrade them?

Depends on the number of servers you have to deal with and what resources your company has for software distribution, if that is an option.

The nice thing about 2.x is that you can deploy a standard zabbix_agentd.conf file to each platform if you use the auto-register feature, as you no longer have to specify something in the Hostname= field - provided that you use the server name as your host name.

Do be sure to also deploy the upgraded zabbix_agentd.conf file as well. There are changes in it since that old version that you are using. In particular, if you use Active Agent checks, there is a parameter called ServerActive that needs to be defined.

Well, we currently only have three servers being monitored by Zabbix at the moment. The goal is to eventually have all of them (around 11 or so) monitored through Zabbix.

Is upgrading the agents as easy as replacing the older version zabbix_agentd.conf file with a 2.0 zabbix_agentd.conf file?

Replace the binary and the conf file.
And be sure to use the correct binary (32bit or 64bit) depending on your OS

I have Zabbix agent 2.0 installed on one of my machines and I can still only see the directories I listed. Do I have to configure something in the Template?

Are you really using 2.0 agent, or are you using 2.0.x? 2.0.6 is the version you would want to use. You can get them here:
                http://www.zabbix.com/download.php

Anyway, for a windows host, look at your template that you assign to those hosts (Template OS Windows). See my screenshot below. You should see 2 discovery rules associated with that template. If you do see that, then your hosts should be reporting data on all available interfaces.

Just be aware that discovery rules can take around an hour to start collecting data when you initially assign the template to a host.

                  Morning tchjts1,

I appreciate your help. I may have been mistaken when I said earlier that I was running zabbix agent version 1.6. When I navigate to latest data > zabbix agent, all three servers show that i'm running version 2.0.8 of the zabbix agent. I'm not sure if that's right or not.

I followed this thread when I installed the zabbix agents on my two AIX servers.

Unless I'm wrong, the RPM package linked in that thread is version 1.6.

I'm certain I am running Zabbix agent 2.0.8 on the Centos OS server (where zabbix-server is installed) because when I run
                  Code:
                  zabbix_agent -V
                  Zabbix agent v2.0.8 (revision 38017) (21 August 2013)
                  Compilation time: Aug 25 2013 11:41:45
                  it shows version 2.0.8.

Is 2.0.8 the wrong version to use? In your reply above you advised I should be using 2.0.6. It looks like 2.0.8 is available for linux and 2.0.6 is the highest available versions for AIX.

You know what, I just realized why all the zabbix agents are showing to be running 2.0.8.

Well, you could be running agent versions of 2.0.8 if you compiled them.

My point was that the lowest version you should be running was 2.0.6, as that is the latest stable-release version that they have pre-compiled.

Check your Template that is assigned to your AIX servers. Template OS AIX?
Is there 2 discovery rules associated with it as shown in my previous response?

I've confirmed that I am indeed running Zabbix Agent 1.6. I'm running 2.0.8 for the agent on the zabbix box itself.

When I extract the tar file that's located on the Zabbix Downloads page I get three folders.

                          bin, conf, and sbin.

I know the conf folder contains the zabbix_agentd conf file. I assume the binary file is in the sbin folder?

Correct. The binary is in the /sbin folder. The files that are in the /bin folder are probably zabbix_get and zabbix_sender.

I'm wondering if I should just remove the agent files I currently have and just start clean. I'm having an issue with Zabbix front end picking up the new 2.0.8 agent.

If I wanted to remove the current agent I have, what would be the best method to do? Should I simply just remove the current directories that I have and just unzip the 2.0.6 agent files and configure the conf file?
