Zabbix 2.2 : Zabbix server is not running red waning on the web interface

    Hi all.

I've a fresh install on a Centos 6.4 32 bit of just the server (zabbix-server-mysql zabbix-web-mysql) with no agent yet.
The server is up and running:
    # service zabbix-server status
    zabbix_server (pid 4312 4311 4310 4309 4308 4307 4296 4295 4294 4293 4292 4291 4290 4289 4288 4287 4285 4284 4283 4282 4281 4280 4279 4278 4277 4276 4273) is running...

Nad actually I can monitor the apache on the server by means o a web scenario.

but the web interface keeps on telling me that the server is not running by sowing a red message at the top:
"Zabbix server is not running: the information displayed may not be current"

    What's the issue ?

    Hi,

check your Zabbix-server.conf! Is the server listening on the right port and IP Adress? localhost:10051

I'm using the defaults on this machine:

      Code:
      ### Option: ListenPort
      # Listen port for trapper.
      #
      # Mandatory: no
      # Range: 1024-32767
      # Default:
      # ListenPort=10051

      ### Option: ListenIP
      # List of comma delimited IP addresses that the trapper should listen on.
      # Trapper will listen on all network interfaces if this parameter is missing.
      #
      # Mandatory: no
      # Default:
      # ListenIP=0.0.0.0
According to netstat the defaults are honored:

      Code:
      [root@myzabbix ~]# netstat -ntpl | grep zab
      tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:10050 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 2077/zabbix_agentd
      tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:10051 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 1764/zabbix_server
      tcp        0      0 :::10050                    :::*                        LISTEN      2077/zabbix_agentd
      tcp        0      0 :::10051                    :::*                        LISTEN      1764/zabbix_server
      [root@myzabbix ~]#
The thing is that everything seems to work but I still get the horrible message !

I would look at the /var/log/zabbix/zabbix_server.log it should tell you in there what is wrong. In my case I had screwed up permissions on the new zabbix table and had to set that straight. I hope this helps.

I solved it by disabling Selinux:
            /etc/sysconfig/selinux

            SELINUX=disabled

              From zabbix server :
              selinux disabled,

              [root@localhost zabbix]# netstat -ntpl | grep zab
              tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:10050 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 6363/zabbix_agentd
              tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:10051 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 8422/zabbix_server

              [root@localhost zabbix]# nmap -p 10050,10051 10.77.77.226

              Starting Nmap 6.40 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2015-01-12 14:48 AZT
              Nmap scan report for 10.77.77.226
              Host is up (0.00016s latency).
              PORT STATE SERVICE
              10050/tcp open unknown
              10051/tcp open unknown

              From zabbix frontend:

              Nmap scan report for 192.168.80.142
              Host is up (0.00062s latency).
              PORT STATE SERVICE
              10051/tcp filtered unknown

zabbix sends log to database, frontend sees database, but frontend does notsee zabbix 10051 port

                you could try this
i would not disable selinux it's an extra security layer

setsebool -P zabbix_can_network on (for the agent)
setsebool -P httpd_can_network_connect on (for server)
setsebool -P httpd_can_network_connect_db on (for server)

if server is running without issues in zabbix_server.log

then check the configuration again of the frontend probably something is wrong there as it needs all configuration settings just like the zabbix server.

The frontend can run on a different server so it needs to have all proper settings to connect to the database etc.
