Advice needed for database on new server

    Hello all,
I have a zabbix 2.4 server running with mysql. Enterprise is not that large, maybe around 120 monitored hosts.

I'm abandoning this server and standing up a new one with the latest version, importing some things from old and starting over otherwise. Most likely this will be CentOS 7.

I remember from some time ago that I had a lot of trouble with Mysql performance and needed to scale way back on history and DB cleanup processes just to maintain server sanity.

What is the preferred back-end database these days? I am fine with either mysql/mariadb, posgresql, etc. but interested to know which freely available DB is considered 'best' for zabbix performance, maintenance, etc.

(not looking for a religious war here! Just pointers to sound advice for starting new updated server)

    Thanks!

Well, the most popular most likely would be MySQL /forks/ and PostgreSQL. Just choose the one which is more familiar to you I guess MySQL.
Tuning will always take place, because default my.cnf is not gonna work properly in production setup. Therefore it is pretty easy to find basic tuning guides online.
+ When your database size is hitting high numbers, it would be worth to do partitioning ( actually from my opinion it would be worth to start with it ). In MySQL it is fully free and documented. ( In case with postgres, also free but a bit different.

    Hope this helps
