I'm relatively new to Zabbix and am a little confused about the IP Address setting/field under the "Agent interfaces" section when setting up a new host at the server side. All of the hosts I setup are active. I understand the agent side and config, for the most part, and how to setup the host. Where I'm confused is the IP Address setting on the server side when setting up a host because the default is 127.0.0.1. Since you can't delete it even if using an active setup, what's the purpose? I noticed that if it's set to 127.0.0.1 the host shows that the ZBX is active but if it's anything else it's not. Especially since most of the hosts that we setup are monitored over the Internet behind firewalls and cannot be reached. So if I leave the setting to 127.0.0.1 ZBX shows green but isn't that a false positive since it really cannot communicate with the agent from the server due to the active setup? Should this be left to 127.0.0.1? We were changing it to something like 128.0.0.1 to avoid any false info. Does the ZBX turn green under Availability only when an agent is used for passive checks and not active checks? Yes, I'm confused about this setting and if someone could break it down simply for me or let me know that when using an active setup for a host this setting doesn't matter because it's completely ignored, etc. that would be a great help. Be prepared as I may have additional questions because I don't like not understanding things.

Update. I went into the IRC room and was chatting with others there. Apparently when using an active setup for a host the 127.0.0.1 stays and is ignored. The ZBX indicator will not "light up" for active agents. It'll only light up if being used for passive monitoring. That's the conclusion from my IRC chats in the Zabbix channel. If I've concluded incorrectly someone please correct me.Comment
