HostGroup population

is there a way to populate the groups dynamically bases on some parameters. i know i can configure the groups for a hist during discovery or agent auto registration, but is there a way to do it for existing hosts or in case the group is crated after the host was added?
by name : for example all host that have '-DB' in the host name
by metadata : for example all host that have 'dev' in the metadata on the agentd.conf file

Not out of box, but I bet this can be done on a schedule with a script and the API if you felt so inclined.
