Monitor via incoming email

I have a number of client systems (backups etc) that are only configurable for notification via email.

Ie when they succeed/fail they send an email saying as much.

At the moment, that means someone has to go through the previous nights backup emails and confirm them.

How can I get these into zabbix, and let zabbix monitor them?

Change all those scripts which are sending emails using mail/mailx command to use zabbix_sender command to send results of some operation s over zabbix trapper items.
