    active agent - big queue

    anyone experiencing performance problems with the active agents?
    release 2.2.1
    we have around 350 hosts, each with 30 monitored items.
    total performance about 37 values per second.

    everything is fine when all the items are passive, but:

    as soon as i change just 2 items to active (update interval each 8 and 12 hours only!),
    "Zabbix agent (active)" queue starts growing immediately.
    with 1 active agent check the "More than 10 minutes" column is around 30 items.

    StartPollers=65
    StartIPMIPollers=2
    StartPollersUnreachable=40
    StartTrappers=65
    StartPingers=15
    CacheSize=64M
    StartDBSyncers=10
    Timeout=30
    ValueCacheSize=32M

    any idea what could be wrong?

    //EDIT:

    it seems that not only the active queue starts growing, but also the "Simple check" and "Zabbix agent".
    this is weird. with all passive items there is almost no queue, but with 1-2 active checks there are 3 queues.

    Do a forum search on the keyword "queue", you will probably find some answers there.

    Although this piece of advice will not fix your issue, I will tell you there is absolutely no need to have StartDBSyncers=10 for monitoring such a small number of hosts. The only time that would need to be changed from the default of 4 is if you are monitoring thousands of hosts.

      i did a forum search and it seems to me like some kind of a bug or performance issue in the 2.2 release.
      how is possible that 65 StartPollers can handle 350x30 passive items without any problems
      and
      65 StartTrappers has problems with 350x2 active items, plus it has a negative effect on both "simple check" and passive agent queues?

        i've just realized that the values are not even being updated.
        i can only monitor 1 active item with 350 hosts and 65 StartTrappers (update interval 8 hours).
        once i switch the second agent type from passive to active (update interval 12 hours), i stop getting new updates. everything is waiting in the queue (350 items with more than 10 minutes).
        is this normal?

          On your hosts, in zabbix_agentd.conf, do you have ServerActive= defined?

            sure, the first active item wouldn't be working otherwise
