Monitoring some host without zabbix agent

    Hi

Is it possible to monitor some host without installing on it zabbix agent ?
I need only to know is that host reacheble or no and check ping timeout to them.

For example i want to ping to yahoo.com and some of my internal VPN hosts.

    Is this possible ?

    Regards

Is there any possibility to check this parameter via command line from shell?
          I mean like zabbix_get program?

The template looks fine, but how do you have the host configured? Also, have you checked your logs for errors? Are you seeing items move through the queue?

I have about 200 hosts that I am monitoring, most of which I pull stats from but about 20-30 are just basic pings to see if they're alive like what you're doing. In order to do this I have a template with two items. one is icmpping and the other ir icmppingsec. I have them both configured as you do in your example. Then I link the templates to my hosts, and everything works. For the hosts, I am using IP addresses instead of just domain names, so that might be sopmething to watch out for.

I try to monitor external host.
For example yahoo.com or some of my VPN servers real IP.
I create 2 items: icmpping and icmppingsec.
I don’t see any errors in my zabbix_server log file and there are no data for my new added host.

I want to check ping status (is host reachable or no) and ping timeout.

I don’t understand why this not works.

                Thanks

If you check your queue using the detailed view, do you see the items there for the host?

There are no information for this host.
It seems that zabbix server don't want to check them because the state of this host in Configuration->Hosts is "Unknown".

                    I will do additional checks.

Im having the same problem as the OP at the moment. I've got an icmppingsec setup for a simple check (as above) and applied it to my template (as such implementing it across the 100-odd hosts) but it returns a null value even if it is monitoring that host.

For the majority of the offline hosts, the active items are all apparent in the queue list apart from the *icmppingsec*. Any ideas?

                      Cheers

I try to modify configurations but there are no effect.
I can't monitor hosts only with the "icmpping" and "icmppingsec" items if zabbix agent not installed on monitored host.

Alexei please consult what i can check ?
I think that i do something wrong, but i need to check some hosts outside of my office and create graph for the ping timeouts.

                        Thanks
