    active check shows 01.01.1970 00:00:00

    an active check that i created shows 01.01.1970 00:00:00 for 1.1 agent.
    trying to get the event log.

    any ideas? as i dont have any data back from the log, im guessing its down to the date?

    Make sure the hostname in the agents config file matches the hostname that the server has.

      thanks for the reply.

      all the other checks work ok such as disk space etc.

      the only line i have in zabbix_agentd.conf
      is

      server=192.168.24.98

        Is this the only active check you are using for this host?

        If so, that is the same thing I had. Apparently only the active checks rely on the hostname. Try adding a line in the config for the agent

        Hostname=servername

        Replacing servername with the same name you are calling that host in the zabbix server. If you make those match up, then the active checks will start functioning.

            thanks for that the Q is clear

            well the queue has gone, what exactly does the event log monitor? does the zabbix agent pass any events since its last check to the server?

            anyhow i created some system events (stopped and started the windows time service) and i dont get anything in zabbix.

            my item on the host is

            type ZABBIX agent (active)
            key eventlog[system] (had to type this in maually the select didnt have it in)

            type of info Log

                right so when i use ip in the conf zabbix server can talk to the agent

                but when i use the hostname or FQDN server cant connect.

                i'll have a proper look tomorrow night when i've got my wits aboiut me as im tired.

                it may be down to the way that the zabbix agent resolves the hostname of the server.

                if i type ping beast.foxhall.local the command line resolves to 192.168.24.9

                which is good.

                but if i do a nslookup beast.foxhall.local the request wizzs off to my isp and comes back with bugger all.

                i'll setup a DNS server being the SOA for foxhall.local tommorow an make sure my host the zabbix client uses it.

                  BACK OF THE NET!!

                  got the eventlog bugger to work.

                  i had to add the hostname= to my config file

                  so before

                  server=192.168.24.98

                  didnt work

                  after
                  server=192.168.24.98
                  hostname=moz-wc5exu697w7

                  and it works

                  i thankyou and goodnight
                  my work here is done.
