    Discovery Rules Duplicate IP Ranges

    Hi All,

I was hoping someone would be able to clarify something regarding discovery for me.

I am running an instance of Zabbix 3.4 on Ubuntu Server 16.04.

Is it a supported configuration to have multiple discovery rules which reference the same IP address ranges?

I noticed in the documentation for version 2 the following note: Each IP address should be included only once; having multiple rules for a single IP address can have unexpected behaviour such as having deadlocks and/or duplicate hosts in the database. The same could happen if two hosts having the same DNS name are included in separate discovery rules. (https://www.zabbix.com/documentation...discovery/rule) I wasn't sure if I should interpret this as I cant have multiple rules with the same single IP address or I can have overlapping ranges across multiple rules? This note has been removed in more recent documentation so perhaps its not longer relevant?

    Many thanks

    Mark

I have just tripped over what appears to be a bug in v3.4 that may be related to what you are asking.
When you have overlapping or duplicate ranges, the discovery process seems to work OK (as long as you aren't trying to add the host through multiple actions), but the Status of Discovery screen throws errors and outputs very unreliable results. Looks like a join (possibly on dcheckid) may have been missed in one or more DB queries.
