    Install on ESXi

    Hi,

I would like to have a monitoring of a ESXi but I don't understand how to setup it.

I understood that I must create firewall rules and it works fine and i attempted to install a agentd on the esx server but the command are very different (esx <=> linux).

I have no prob to install windows agent and i have several servers in my zabbix server.

I'm searching to a procedure of installation.

Thanks for your support and sorry for my bad english.

      Thanks for you reply

      I'm using 2.2 version.

But, i'am afraid that i didn't understand how to configure my host.

Do I simply add the ip of my vmware and my credentials or do i configure the list of your link ?

      Thanks for your patience

          Hi,

Is it possible to install this procedure (https://www.zabbix.com/documentation..._from_packages) to have vmware keys or I must install zabbix source only ?

I understood that they are 3 procedures to install Zabbix :

          - Install it from the distribution packages
          - Download the latest source archive and compile it yourself
          - Download the virtual appliance

Obviously, the last is my prefered but I want to monitor vmware hypervisor.

          Thanks for your support,
          Nicolas

            I'm desesperate

            I installed Ubuntu
I installed Mysql, php5 and phpmyadmin
I installed Zabbix from sources 2.2.2
I installed a lot of librairies to run all dependencies

I installed zabbit_agentd on ESXi and i opened the firewall

I can see zabbix in my broswer and I added a host with his IP ...

And now .... how to monitor the esxi ?

I presume that I must link the agent of ESXi and my zabbix but ... how to do it ?

            Many thanks for your support.

Yes, but I don't have the same menu to discover ...

                I made :

Configuration > Discovery > Create a discovery rule

                I presume that I made a mistake.

                Thank for your support.

Check the last part of documentation - Example

You have to create a Host, describe some macros and link to the VMware service template.
                  That's it.
VMware service template will care about creating all HV-hosts, Guest-machine hosts and a lot of Items.
                  Sincerely yours,
                  Aleksey

First of all - You don't need to install any zabbix agent on ESXi host.
Second - Are you completely, 100%, sure that you made all macroses and wrote the correct value:
                      - {$URL} - VMware service (vCenter or ESX hypervisor) SDK URL (https://{IP_or_NAME_of_ESXI_SERVER/sdk).
                      - {$USERNAME} - VMware service user name
                      - {$PASSWORD} - VMware service {$USERNAME} user password

After your Discovery rule for new host start working it automatically create all HyperVisors hosts, all guest machine hosts and fill it up with a tonnes of items.

This kind of magic has a special name - LowLevelDiscovery, or LLD.

Finally - Do you mind to use "Search" tool on this forum? A lot of people already asked all question which you can make and they were answered in some way.
                      Sincerely yours,
                      Aleksey
