    How to

    I'm a real noob when it comes to Zabbix as well as SNMP, but I'm hoping that someone may be able to point me in the right direction.

    I have three Huawei managed switches on the network (a s5700 and two S3700-28TP-SI-AC) that are running in Managed Mode like they should (after a couple of days banging on them to get them that way)..

    Over the past two weeks we seem to be saturating the T-1 connection even though the network appears clean and free of viruses and Trojans so my goal is to be able to pull graphs of port utilization from the three switches. It's my understanding that Zabbix perfectly capable of doing this but everything I've found thus far is just a little too vague and seems to leave out too much detail for my noob brain to understand it....

    If anyone knows of a good, step by step "How to" I'd most appreciative...

    1) enable SNMP on any Huawei managed switches and configure the community string
    2) install zabbix_server
    3) create new host with field filled like that:
    - hostname: MyFirstHuawei
    - Visible name: MyFirstHuawei (or any one which you like more, ex. "Switch on the North Side of Fujiyama"
    - SNMP interfaces: {ip_address_of_First_Huawei_Switch}

    click "Save" and open host configuration again

    4)Switch to tab "Templates"
    - in "Link new templates" start typing "Interfaces" and select "Template SNMP Interfaces" from dynamically created list
    - click "Add" under the field "Link new templates"
    - click "Save" and open host configuration again

    5) Open "Discovery Rules" menu (from the same line where is the name of host, far right side)
    - click "Network interfaces" and change "Update interval" to 1, if you would like to collect hte whole list of interfaces A.S.A.P
    - click "Save"

    6) Open "Monitoring" -> "Latest data"
    - select from drop down menu on right side of screen the Host Group and Host.
    - change the Filter settings :
    • Show items without data = ON
    • Show details = ON
    - wait for 10-15 minutes and check if you have a new data.

    7) Open "Monitoring" -> "Graphs"
    - select from drop down menu on right side of screen the Host Group and Host.
    - select any Graph from drop down menu and check how it looks on graph.

    Profit!

    (or not if anything goes wrong. Ask the forum team if you will have any problem, but don't forget to be very specific and provide as many data as it possible)

    Good luck!
    Sincerely yours,
    Aleksey
