Creating a trigger for vtun1 interface on Edgemax router

I've successfully setup Zabbix to monitor a few network devices as pilot. I've setup e-mail notifications which are working well. On my UBNT EdgeMax router I have several OpenVPN tunnels that get DHCP IP's. I can admin down eth1, eth2 ,etc and get alerts as expected but when I admin down the vtun interfaces Zabbix doesn't trigger. Can somebody point me in the right direction for monitoring the vtun interfaces so they trigger properly?
