IfAlias/IfDescr missing turn off monitoring for these interfaces

    Hi everyone,

I am looking to disable all interfaces from discovery and monitoring unless they have IfAlias set as a default behaviour for all devices. How do i accomplish this? I have been looking through the templates and haven't found a place where i can have this custom setting. I did google it for a while but have not seen this in any discussion. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

If you are using SNMP agent,
then there is discovery rule "Network Interfaces Discovery" in the official template "Template Net Network Generic Device SNMPv2" that has discovering macros {#IFALIAS}, {#IFDESCR} (among others).
So, you can use them for filtering discoverable items (i.e. {#IFALIAS} matches \w+ )

Ok then second question that follows this, if i make the change now and already have a bunch of devices will server stop polling for interfaces without ifAlias or will it require a manual clean or a rediscovery will basically get rid of other interfaces?

I don't sure, but It seems that this does not affect the already discovered items. So you need to delete them manually.
    Working...
