More than 100 items having missing data for more than 10 minutes

    Hi all,

I am getting the message "More than 100 items having missing data for more than 10 minutes" and despite looking at all the graphs I cannot see that this is actually a problem.

I am using Zabbix 2.2 Server and Zabbix 2.2 Proxy. The proxy appears to have the issue.

I am only monitoring about 100 hosts and 10 of those are on the proxy. My servers show that they are hardly working at all and the Zabbix graphs also show the same. I have tuned the MySQL servers and they too show that they are not really doing much so I can't see that this is a hardware performance issue.

I have quite a few jobs which only run every hour i.e. SNMP total disk space and total disk used etc. I need this info my my client even though obviously things like total disk size will never change.

The data on the graphs seems up to date so I can't actually see that this is a problem.

The fact that I have loads of jobs only running once every hour would surely explain the More than 100 items having missing data for more than 10 minutes message or am I missing something?

I have spent ages looking at this and reading forums etc. but can't see that this is a problem. The error message is correct in what it is saying but in my case its not actually a problem is it? I am therefore thinking that I can change the trigger to say 200 items in 10 minutes.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can put my mind at rest.

Somewhere on this forum once upon a time I found the information (may be, not completely correct) that the version 2.2+ of Zabbix server counts the Queue length incorrectly.

You can monitor the queue length on proxy side and on server side and compare it.

I assume you will see almost empty proxy queue and hundreds and hundreds of items in server queue.

It is not your fault. It is how it works now, I hope, until the new version of Zabbix software. Which will be released by the end of May 2014.
    Sincerely yours,
    Aleksey

      Hi aib,

Thanks for your response. I won't worry any more.

I will wait and see if the new version fixes it in a few weeks time.

      Terry

I ended up changing my trigger to a higher number then 100. As far as I can tell its quite normal to have more than 100 items. Especially when you are monitoring lots of servers and services etc. I have had no problems since increasing my trigger so I personally think that's the way to go. Its been almost 5 months now that my Zabbix is like this with no obvious side affect. My performance graphs all look fine too. Hope this helps.

              Solution Found!

I know this is an old post, but this was annoying me as well recently.

I have found that the "Items Missing" counts items that it has not heard back from, even if the check itself is more than 10 minutes. Nearly all of the 'more than 100 items' were all items being checked only once an hour, or once per day. Things like version numbers, asset tags, etc. were all being counted in these items. When I ruled out all of these items, there were only a small handful of items actually missing, that were already triggered problems.

To correct that you can either use 10 minutes as the highest interval check, or track the number of items checked less frequently than 10 minutes, and set the trigger higher than that number. (Keep in mind that once a day, this number will drop significantly if you're using daily checks - Once per hour with hourly checks, etc.)
