    Ubuntu - New Install

    Hi all,

After a bit of help. Installing a new version of Zabbix (2.2) on a new Ubuntu box (14.04).

    When entering:

    apt-get install zabbix-server-MySQL zabbix-frontend-php

    I receive the following:

Depends: libsnmp15 (>= 5.4.3~dfsg) but it is not installable
Recommends: mySQL-server (>= 4.0.16-2) but it is not going to be installed
Recommends: snmpd but it is not going to be installed
Recommends: snmptt but it is not going to be installed
Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages

Anyone know if I have missed something?

    Thanks

    Hello!

I remember I had something like this as well. I cannot remember the exact steps I did back then but try with installing libsnmp.
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install libsnmp-dev
    Best Regards,
    Ingus

      Thanks for the reply Ingus.

Have tried that but still getting the same error when rerunning the command.

      Libsnmp-dev did install though.

Is that a test instance you are using there?

I looked up my command history and I see that I have done also
        sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
        and
        sudo apt-get install snmpd

I really cannot remember how I solved this, sorry! But there wasn't anything hard.

        Best Regards,
        Ingus

          Hi Ingus,

No it's not a test instance. I'll try your suggestions in the meantime.

          Thanks!

Ok, after a bit of testing and research it looks like I might be hitting issues because I'm trying this on a 64bit Ubuntu. Going to try with a 32bit and see if I get the same results.

Hang on a minute. This is not a 32 bit issue. There is no 32 bit Ubuntu 14.04 anymore and there is no 32-bit Zabbix server either.

              Best Regards,
              Ingus

Ok, thanks for the heads up!

I've started over again and this time everything looks like it has gone ok and all commands processed fine.

However, I don't seem to be able to access the Zabbix website. I've started the Zabbix server but get no response in a browser.

                  Check the firewall settings
By default, Ubuntu restrict all program to any access.

                  Some useful links:
This tutorial will cover how to set up Zabbix on an Ubuntu cloud server. Zabbix is an enterprise-level system monitoring solution that can be used to track …

Also be sure that you are installing the correct package, because Ubuntu 14.04 has a different package from Ubuntu 12.04 (https://www.zabbix.com/documentation...s#debianubuntu)

Don't think it's the firewall settings as browsing to the server displays:

The requested URL /zabbix was not found on this server.

I can browse to the server and see the Apache2 Ubuntu default page.

Thanks for the link, yes I did install the correct package following the documentation.

Also, browsing the server directory there seems to be no zabbix folder within the apache2 files. Might explain the missing website.

A bit further along with this. Apache2 did have an error on startup however this was fixed by adding:

                        ServerName localhost

to the end of the apache2.conf file in /etc/apache2.

The documentation says to edit the following file:

                        /etc/apache2/conf.d/zabbix

However there is an apache.conf file in /etc/zabbix which has the editable lines.

After this though, with apache2 restarting correctly, the zabbix site still fails to load.

I'm not sure about Ubuntu, but the configuration file in different directory has no impact to apache2 working environment.

Are you sure that apache2 picked up that file /etc/zabbix/apache.conf ????

I can believe that apache2 collect all files from /etc/apache2/conf.d - because it's a typical settings
But the file from external directory which is not described in apache2.conf???

                          Aleksey

Had this exactly same error because I copied wrong line for repository... I was using the one for debian 7 wheezy on a Ubuntu 14.04.1 installation.

Using the right line/repo for Ubuntu solved the problem. Probably when you tried again with a fresh installation, you installed right repos ;-)
