Monitoring Multiple Switch Ports

Does anyone know of a way to monitor multiple switch ports using templates, but without having to build a template for each individual port? Here are a couple things that I want to monitor:

ifName
ifDescr
ifMTU
ifInOctets
ifOutOctets

I don't want to monitor all ports, so LLD is out as an option.

You can modify or create a new LLD rule to match ONLY the ports you want to monitor. This is probably useless if the vary between switches.

You can set LLD to filter out the ports you don't need using a regexp rule on ifAlias or ifDescr. For example, if your ports have very different names ("eth1, GigabutEthernet0/1, etc), you can use the ifDescr OID with a LLD filter rule and keep only the ports having "MONITORED - " in the description.
