    SNMP fallback {item.value}

    Hello.

    Short question : how can I make :
    20:55:56 2019/07/29 enterprises.318.0.17 Normal "General event" 172.16.10.231 - enterprises.318.2.3.3.0:The batteries of the UPS need immediate replacement. on UPS Workshop;

    Be shown as The batteries of the UPS need immediate replacement. on UPS Workshop

    Long question:

    After following a number of guides I now have SNMP traps working and when a fallback trap is received it shows the long version above, all the received traps seem to show the IOD and then the actual textual information.

    Being a noop I'm still finding my feet and somewhat at a loss as to what to do now to get these translated into something shorter that easier to read.

    thanks,

    You can make a separate data item for enterprises.318.0.17 traps (like snmptrap["enterprises.318.0.17"]) and locate the desired string by preprocessing. and use them as trigger descriptions. Or a dependent data item with similar operation logic and trigger. For example regex "^.*The batteries of the UPS need immediate replacement\.(.*);$" and grop \1 .

      Hi, thanks for the reply. being a noob I've not followed what you said unfortunately. I'm using snmptt , I was hoping there was a way that it could lookup the short text explanation of the problem from the mibs and pass that to zabbix instead of the actual message being provided by the device.

        Using snmptt, you can format the trap message any way you want, using different variables. At http://snmptt.sourceforge.net/docs/snmptt.shtml go to FORMAT
        But there are predefined fields that will still be in zabbix message (20:55:56 2019/07/29 enterprises.318.0.17 Normal "General event" 172.16.10.231) according to documentation.
        Therefore, the option of converting strings on the server side was proposed
