Convert item to item prototype

Let's say I have 20 items that I want to convert into 20 item prototypes within a discovery rule.

Is there an easy way to do this? I can do this by exporting the template and manually editing it, but that can take a long time, especially with bigger templates.
Is there such a feature within Zabbix itself to do so?

I will be curious to see if someone has better ideas, I just did this for half a dozen or so and retyped each one. I think editing the XML of a template export is also viable through for 6 it wasn't worth it, but maybe 20. You'd have to change the format of the keys of course, and perhaps harder the functions in the triggers.
