Check ping and alert when ping > 0 ?

Hello. I'm new user of Zabbix.
I want to check whether the host been launched and stay informed when the ping > 0 (host is now alive).
Should I use Template ICMP Ping ? But as in this case ?

    Hello,
you have two ways check monitored host:
    1) Use Zabbix agent bult-in item "icmpping[,3]", create trigger for it "{Template:icmpping[,3].last(0)}=0". This trigger will fire an issue if ALL thee packets sent to the host are lost. Zabbix uses fping util for this item. icmpping returns 0 if all packet sent to host are lost, and return 1 if even from number packets is OK.
This option requires additional configuration on the hosts: https://www.google.com/url?q=https%3...W7Lo-yF7ln_dHQ

    2) Use user parameter for agent in /etc/zabbix/zabbix_agentd.conf on all servers:
UserParameter=ping[*], ping -c3 $$1 (some check should be done, like echo $?, so this parameter return 0 or 1),
On zabbix server side create item for each host with key: ping[hostname]. And configure trigger

      Use Template ICMP Ping

I would attach the ICMP Ping template as it is agentless and modify the ping fail trigger to 'High' and create an action that will alert you via email.

        Tenx for reply.

I forgot to add that the host is not pc (can't install agent).
I want to receive notification when the backup link in my IPS is up and i thinking that ping is a good option.

Well the ICMP Ping Template is Agentless (no agent required) so it would be perfect for your situation. As for being notified, I think it is safe to assume the link is up if it isn't down so what I said would work perfectly for you.
