    How to debug E-mail notifications?

    Hello

    I am new to zabbix.
I have trouble setting up Email notifications for some triggers?

I configured an action off type Send message, a trigger for my action, the Media type Email and linked an email-address to my user.
But I didn't receive any emails?

When I look to the logs off my zabbix server, I didn't find anything on any debug level.
How can you see that an action has been executed and that the trigger for an action has been fired?
What is the output in the log file? And in which log file I should be looking?

I also read something in the documentation about the debug mode.
Does anyone know how to use the debug mode?

    Thanks you for your help!

    Hello Jarne.

Have a look - this how I have set up my media type to send emails using gmail account: (Administration > Media types > Email)

Click image for larger version Name:	1.PNG Views:	1 Size:	37.4 KB ID:	386589

As You can see it is quite easy and simple set up. Now, after adding host, creating items and triggers You can go to Configuration > Actions. On the top right corner click Creat Action, give that action a name, and under New condition choose Trigger equals and select Your trigger and click Add:

Click image for larger version Name:	2.PNG Views:	1 Size:	33.4 KB ID:	386590

Then click on Operations Tab and You will see what is going to look like a new message. Now, you have to click Operations New and set the correct for Your setup details: Like i did as below:

Click image for larger version Name:	3.PNG Views:	1 Size:	35.8 KB ID:	386591

This is the very basic setup.

So now if You go to Monitoring > Problems You will see list of all Your triggers, and those which were set to send emails You will see a litter arrow next to it, and if You put Your mouse across it there is going to pop up a little windows showing details:

More info You can get by going to Reports > Action log and see list of logs of the Actions.

    Good luck!

      Hi Lukaszor

I run my zabbix_server on an Ubuntu VM. Do I have to install a mailserver on my Ubuntu VM?
I think that I have misconfigured my SMTP Media type.
In this media type you have to fill in the required SMTP Helo and SMTP Server field.
But I have no idea which possible values/default values there are.
How can I test if my media type configuration is correct?

If You are going to use external mailserver like Exchange or in my case Gmail, You dont have to install mailserver on Ubunt VM. But if You dont want to use external ones, yes You can install something like for example postfix .

What mail server are You using? You have to configure relays on mail server so zabbix can send message through it

              Thank, you for your help!
I have solved my email notifications.
I was a very stupid, ridiculous problem.
After a few hours, I found that my User group, where my user belong to was disabled.
It was a very dirty, hilarious problem that caused no output/errors.
              My SMPT-settings where correct.
