    Email alerts (Internal Exchange)

    Good morning all,

I've search Google quite a bit on this issue but I haven't found a solution. Here's the problem:

Newly deployed Zabbix server needs to be able to alert our Admin on errors and events. I've dug into Administration>Media Types>Email but can't for the life of me figure out which values I need to input here. (see below)

    SMTP server: (insert value)?

    SMTP helo: (insert value)?

SMTP email: [email protected] (internal Microsoft Exchange 2013/Domain)

We've got a Microsoft Exchange 2013 server on the same subnet (192.168.21.x) as our Zabbix server, so there isn't any firewalls in the way of the setup for communication between the two.

Any help is greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advanced!

Hi, SMTP server is the ip or domain of your email server (you can enter 192.168.21.100 if this is your email IP).

SMTP Helo: you can enter everything you want, ex: abc.com
SMTP Email: the email will be use to send email report (its place to from).

After you set up. You must go to Configuration --> Action --> create a action to send email

And then, you go you go to Administrator --> User --> And edit user that you want to be receive email --> Next go to tab Media and setup

    Finish

You should be receive email already

        It worked!

After configuring my settings with what you specified. I ran telnet on my Exchange server and noticed that SMTP wasn't running let alone installed. I loaded up SMTP and pointed it to itself 127.0.0.1, turned off Authentication, and gave it an email address to use "[email protected]".

Ran a test event and waited for it to hit my mailbox. I didn't send. I checked the error on Zabbix events and it stated that "wrong answer on MAIL FROM [530 5.7.1 Client was not authenticated ]"

Took some time to research and noticed that I needed to change our Receive connector inside Exchange to accept mail from "Anonymous" as well. After that events were hitting our mailbox successfully!!

Thank you so much for your help. I learned quite a bit with SMTP/Zabbix from this.
