Send data over API

Hi!

I'm trying to make a computer send various system info to zabbix on a regular basis. Using the API, I managed to automatically log in and retrieve the corresponding hostid and itemids. But I can't find out for the life of me how to actually send new data to these items. Took me a while to realize that the method "item.update" can only be used to edit item attributes but not to add new data.
A push in the right direction would be very much appreciated!

The Zabbix API is not intended to do that.
It's intended to retrieve and modify the configuration of Zabbix and provides access to historical data.

or hopefully it is now possible and somebody can give a hint how to do that.

If you want to periodically send values to the Zabbix server, try using the zabbix_sender command.
You can send the host name, item key, and value to the Zabbix server as arguments.

API is not necessary.

Thanks, but that requires zabbix_sender to be installed on the machine.

Unfortunately zabbix_sender is not installed there and i have no control over the machine. So i am searching for another solution.

Here is the task:
I want to know if a Jenkins job was successful or failed.
Jenkins and biuld nodes are hosted by third party.
I thought i can issue shell command at the end of my Jenkins job that will send some data to Zabbix and fire a trigger if job status <> successful.

Is there a way how to send data to Zabbix from a machine that have nothing from Zabbix installed on it?

I think that you can check the job status from the Zabbix server using Jenkins' API.

If you can run the script, you can run a zabbix_sender compatible script to notify the Zabbix server.
However, there is a possibility that it can not be used when the protocol used by Zabbix is changed.

Yes.
Data already collected by Zabbix server can be retrieved using the API. However, the API cannot be used to send data acquired by other devices to the Zabbix server as item data. What do you want to achieve?

I think he needs to sent new data to Zabbix without or bypass a Zabbix agent.
How to send information if a script works a couple of hours? Use zabbix_sender which need installing and updating? Much easier use API function in a script.
