Monitoring interfaces with SNMP

I can't get interface information from an ASA. I've tried several templates but they don't seem to work. I installed the template "Template SNMP Network Device Interfaces". The device discovery rule isn't supported. Gives me an error message.

ERROR
snmp_parse_oid(): cannot parse OID "IF-MIB::ifDescr".

Is there a fix for this?

Thanks!

IF-MIB::ifDescr of is not OID containing the data or which you can monitor. It is vector of OIDs.
Try to execute:
Code:
snmpwalk -v2c -c<comminity_name> <dev.host.name> IF-MIB::ifDescr
and you will see what you can use as OIDs.

Installed SNMP MIBS

Looks like I forgot a step when installing Zabbix. I remembered seeing something about SNMP MIBs for another monitoring system.

1. Installed the SNMP MIBs downloader
2. Downloaded and configured SNMP / MIBs
3. Restarted services
4. Everything Works!

I've got bandwidth graphs for our ASA.

IF MIB like many base MIBs comes with base net-snmp installation.
If you are using Linux or other popular Unix you should be not forced to do above unless you are did something wrong before.

Some of the MIBs aren't free

I read somewhere that some of the MIBs are not free. I'm running Ubuntu 14.04. They don't include non free software.

Same issue when running "Template SNMP Device"

I came across the same issue with built-in template "Template SNMP Device".

Running Zabbix 2.2.7 on Ubuntu 14.04.

kloczek can you please explain a bit more how did you fix that problem?

I installed snmp-mibs-downloader which downloaded quite a lot of MIBs, restarted zabbix server, but I still get the same error.

Can you elaborate on "configured SNMP / MIBs" part?

estou tendo o mesmo probema:
snmp_parse_oid(): cannot parse OID "IF-MIB::ifAdminStatus.{#SNMPINDEX}" - template do zabbix em um host configurado snmp
quem conseguiu resolver me contate ou responda aqui, por favor!!
uso o zabbix 3.0 no debian 7.0

Solved

Don't know what solved, but I installed the following packages (need to add extra and non-free in /etc/apt/sources.list

snmp-mibs-downloader snmpsim unzip libsnmp-mib-compiler-perl
