    Zabbit monitor remote mysql host

    I installed zabbix-release_4.4-1+bionic_all.deb

    Rather than using a local mysql I have installed the server mysql on a remote database.

    I have a database server and I would like to monitor it however it constantly says mysql is down which it is not. Even when I run the following I get this output (on zabbix server)

    zabbix_agentd -t "mysql.version."
    mysql.version. [m|ZBX_NOTSUPPORTED] [Unsupported item key.]

    I have created a .my.cnf in /etc/zabbix and also the userparams_mysql.conf file (on the zabbix server)

    my .mycnf file looks like this

    [client]
    user=zbx_user
    password=secretPw
    host=cool.remote-db-server.com

    [mysql]
    user=zbx_user
    password=secretPw
    host=cool.remote-db-server.com

    [mysqladmin]
    user=zbx_user
    password=secretPw
    host=cool.remote-db-server.com

    and zabbix_agentd.d/userparameter_mysql.conf is as follows

    # For all the following commands HOME should be set to the directory that has .my.cnf file with password information.

    #

    # Flexible parameter to grab global variables. On the frontend side, use keys like mysql.status[Com_insert].

    # Key syntax is mysql.status[variable].

    UserParameter=mysql.status[*],echo "show global status where Variable_name='$1';" | HOME=/etc/zabbix mysql -N | awk '{print $$2}' # My line

    #

    # Flexible parameter to determine database or table size. On the frontend side, use keys like mysql.size[zabbix,history,data].

    # Key syntax is mysql.size[<database>,<table>,<type>].

    # Database may be a database name or "all". Default is "all".

    # Table may be a table name or "all". Default is "all".

    # Type may be "data", "index", "free" or "both". Both is a sum of data and index. Default is "both".

    # Database is mandatory if a table is specified. Type may be specified always.

    # Returns value in bytes.

    # 'sum' on data_length or index_length alone needed when we are getting this information for whole database instead of a single table

    UserParameter=mysql.size[*],echo "select sum($(case "$3" in both|"") echo "data_length+index_length";; data|index) echo "$3_length";; free) echo "data_free";; esac)) from information_schema.tables$([[$

    #

    #Default below

    #UserParameter=mysql.ping,HOME=/etc/zabbix mysqladmin ping | grep -c alive

    UserParameter=mysql.ping,HOME=/etc/zabbix mysqladmin -s ping | grep -c alive || true

    You can query the agentd using '-p' to get it to print all of the items it knows about, so what does 'zabbix_agentd -p | egrep -i mysql' show? Does it show a bunch of item keys that match the item keys you've defined?

      Yeah it seems that it prints out everything that I have defined in the zabbix_agentd.d/userparameter_mysql.conf file but it does not report these things back to the server for some reason - the server is always reporting that mysql is down.
Working...
