Monitor physical disks that are part of vSAN datastore

    Hi There,

I am trying to figure out a way to detect "disk failures" within the vSAN datastore cluster. I thought of using "nodata(T)" for 10minutes on a particular datastore. Unfortunately, i see that VMware templates only gets me metrics at vSAN level. Is there anyway to get individual datastore metrics that are part of vSAN datastore so that i could detect any disk failures if data is not reported for x minutes?

You're talking about the default/example VMWare templates, that come with Zabbix, correct?

The default templates are excellent examples and the new template best practices are improving them, but they can't cover everything. You're probably going to need to figure out how to collect the data (items) that will allow you to make decisions about individual physical disk health.

With that in mind, the question becomes, "How do you (programmatically) determine disk failure status"? What do web searches or VMWare docs turn up for how to gather this information? If you can gather it via a command, you can get Zabbix to make problem threshold determinations about the data.
