    Linux service monitoring

    Hey there,
I'd like to monitor some specific services (differing from host to host) to see if they're all running nicely and without problems.
What I've found so far was this. Unfortuniatly, it didn't really work for me - it found all services, but still didn't create Items & Triggers for my custom services. Plus It generated some problems which weren't even problems.
I'm using Ubuntu 16.04/18.04 & Debian, mostly. If a possible solution would be compatible to that (especially Ubuntu 18.04), it'd be great.
Little disclaimer: Zabbix is still very new to me. I've got it installed since Saturday, so still learning the basics. Therefore, excuse me, if this should be a very simple question and please bare with me, if I don't get stuff right away

My advice to everyone that's new to Zabbix is start simple. If you're interested in monitoring a few specific services, you don't need someone else's template. You'll learn a lot more about how it works and how to accomplish your site's specific goals if you create a few of the items and triggers yourself.

Assuming you're using the Zabbix agent on your linux hosts, look at the various Zabbix agent items available. You want to make certain a particular process is running? Maybe use proc.num[]. You want to see if a port is open? Look at some of the tcp.* items.

Again, I'm not saying that using pre-written templates are bad. I'm also not saying low-level discovery (LLD) is bad. It's awesome, especially in big environments. But LLD is a bit of an advanced topic, and when you're just starting out, starting simple is generally best.
