Hi there, off to a rocky start here. I am new to zabbix, i watched the demo and it looks appropriate to replace my aging zenoss which cannot be upgraded to the latest release. I like the look of the product so i have picked zabbix to evaluate.
Having some trouble getting the vmware image going.
Firstly, it is provided as a VMX file. So i had to install vmware converter to convert it and migrate it onto my esxi cluster. No big deal there. Not something i usually have to do with appliances though.
So that worked, but on first boot, no network card is detected. After doing some research, this is due to the fact that vmware tools is not installed. OK so easy, right click and install vmware tools. But NOPE vmware tools does not seem to be able to install on centOS.
ok fine, so i look at how to do that. Apparently unlike unbuntu, centos uses something called "open-vm-tools" which isnt provided by vmware, so may not have the drivers. But i decide to try it anyway to install it. But its a catch 22, i cant install it without a network card.
I figured out that instead of apt-get, centos uses something called DNF, so i run dnf list installed |grep open , and it confirms that there is no open-vm-tools installed.
So how to proceed here? I am not a linux noob, but i havent used redhat since they went commercial many years ago. I feel like this should work out of the box, being an official image, made to install on vmware.

EDIT: i was able to get it going by adding a second network card of the type E1000 . The default network card is installed as "flexible" which centos does not have built in drivers for. E1000 installs as an intel pro/1000 network card which everyone and their dog supports. i am leaving this here incase the next person runs into the same problems. I feel like this could work better if you guys want to revisit the process here.
