when to use UserParameter or External Script

hi experts, i'm new to zabbix, only this week into it
but now reading, i want to take information from json data and commands from linux devices
so i made it work, with a external script for get the http code and it worked, but now
i read about UserParameters and also in there i can put the commands but the parse it's in the preprocessing part
so what's the difference or advantage of doing in those ways
please help me to get more clear the things in zabbix

in general external scripts or userparamters are used whenever you cant get the data with builtin functionality

http codes can be obtainesd viat http agent or webscenario

using native funcionalitites result in less errors and less maintenance , not to mention better performance ( built in capabilities are less resources hungry running (lots of) external scripts or complicated user parameters )
