    SNMP Monitoring

Hi, Looking at Zabbix for a monitoring solution however am confused about snmp (almost every device to be monitored is a switch or router). Ive tried adding a Cisco 3560CX switch with just an snmp 2c community string however snmp never shows up under the availability tab.

I dont have a DNS server so am just adding with an ip address, can ping the device and have added the ip address of the zabbix server to the switch community string.

    Bit of a loss.

can you test telnet to your switch with port 161
can you test from zabbix with snmpwalk command (search google for snmpwalk v2)
Also, you need to assign Cisco IOS template so snmp flag can go green in zabbix

    hope this helps

      Hi ,

Ping/snmpwalk/SSH are fine , I've checked that the Firewall on the host Zabbix server is disabled (running on Linux Mint 19), but I think I have others issues as my local network discovery doesnt produce any results either.

I must be the thickest person on the planet ! - Somehow I have been able to add the switch , however it doesn't appear to be giving me any data - So no cpu/memory/interfaces etc The graphs option is greyed out.

Please, correct IP address for SNMP interface.
From your screenshots I assume that host name is "192.168.1.3" , but SNMP interface for requests is 127.0.0.1 port 161
          Sincerely yours,
          Aleksey

I think at this point its time to call it quits - Its a fantastic NMS just beyond my abilities - I need something that will work out of the box like Opmanager or Solarwinds - they are too cost prohibitive though hence why I thought opensource - I guess I'm just too old and too thick :-(

              SNMP community looks unusual
Did you try to check if it works from command line?
              Code:
              snmpwalk 192.168.1.3 -v 2c -c {$Monday1964!}
              Sincerely yours,
              Aleksey

My community string is Monday1964! and that responds correctly when an snmpwalk is run against it. I was inserting into the provided syntax {$SNMP_COMMUNITY} when you add snp to a host.

{$SNMP_COMMUNITY} is macro based, which you can set it as a global macro (Administrative > General > Marco) if all your device is having same SNMP community string.
Or you can add it as a macro is host level.

You may simply remove the {$} icon and should be working just with Monday1964!
