    2.4.3 Linked Templates

    Hi all!

I'm trying to link another template to my main template.

The new template only has 10 items, and the main template has 250 hosts.

When I add the template and hit update, the operation times out. I've tried extending my php max_executiontime, but even at 600 it times out.

Should I be normally be able to do this operation?

    Hi,

In such cases first check webserver error log. (/var/log/httpd/error_log or something like that)
There you will see what exactly went wrong and then try to tune the parameters according to the log.

PHP memory_limit also worth to check.

    Best Regards,
    Ingus

I dont seem to have any apache or syslog errors.

I do have a php error.
[29-Jan-2015 09:22:40 Australia/Melbourne] PHP Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 600 seconds exceeded in /var/www/zabbix/include/classes/debug/CProfiler.php on line 216

        Hi,

Then max_executiontime it is. Well for testing purposes you can increase that even more and see if it helps somehow.

Other options at your own risk.
        Option 1.
        1. Unlink the main template from the hosts in smaller packs (not all 250 at once). Risk of losing history of items if not done properly.
        2. Link another template to the main template
        3. Link back the hosts. Old items and history should be intact.

        Option 2.
Use Zabbix API to link the templates.

        Best Regards,
        Ingus

so given that my errors consist only of the max_execution timeout, I'm not actually experiencing an error as such - my data is just on the large side of things for the hardware its running on?

            Hi,

Yes, you are correct. Sometimes such things may happen when touching templates for larger group of hosts. Some tuning of configuration plus workarounds with unlinking may help you in this case.

            Best Regards,
            Ingus
