What are you doing to monitor vSphere/vCenter/ESXi with Zabbix 5?

What are you doing to monitor vSphere/vCenter/ESXi with Zabbix 5?

Are you adding a host with 127.0.0.1 and placing the macros in for url/user/pass pulling in all of vcenter/hosts/vms?

Are you using snmp to monitor just the esxi host health?

    A mixture?

I'm trying to understand what other people are doing as I am new to zabbix and I want to monitor vmware but I didn't really care for the vmware template applied to the host with the url/user/pass. It pulled in everything and it all show sup as 127.0.0.1 with no predefined triggers etc.. This flooded zabbix with every vm and host. so monitoring the same vm with the agent would now have a double entry that didn't match the hostname format I use with the agent. So double entries for a server basically, one for the agent and one for the vm.

I tried again by removing the vm template and just looked at the hosts/datastores. But again.. everything was 127.0.0.1 and no predefined triggers etc..

I undid that as well and it left me thinking maybe I would be better off with a different template or way of monitoring vmware. I want to know the host up/down and performance, errors etc..not sure what the best approach is.

Maybe the way I described is working well for you or you have a better way of doing it. Please share your experience
