Running different versions of agent and server

I was wondering if there are any know issues of running a new version (in this case agent 2.2.8 server 2.2.2) of the agent with an older version of the server. I installed the agent using these instructions:

because I wanted to use the package manager to install the agent and folloing these instructions installed 2.2.8. Everything seems to be working fine so far, just curious if there are warnings about doing this. I cannot find anything about this scenerio on the Zabbix web site. They talk about running an old version of the agent with a new version of server but not the other way.

I'm pretty sure the newer agents are backwards compatible. I swear i read that somewhere.
