How do overrides affect existing discovered items?

How do overrides affect existing discovered items?

For example a discovered windows service. If it is already there, and then you change the template to have an override that sets that service to discovered but not enabled, what happens to the item that is already there on the host? Does the override only impact newly added hosts on initial service discovery?

In my testing, it doesn't seem to affect existing discovered items. If I delete the item, discovery runs, the override is applied. But otherwise it doesn't seem to affect the existing items which is unfortunate.

If I am missing something please let me know. It seems like a bunch of work to keep adding excluded windows services with overrides and then have to manually address all the previously discovered items to clean up.
