New install of Zabbix. After approx. 5 mins the page displayed "Zabbix server..."

To start with, sorry. I have not touched Linux in over ten years so may ask some stupid questions.

I installed Zabbix and am now trying to add hosts. My issue is that after approx. five mins the webpage seems to error and I have to restart to get it working again.

Error: Zabbix server is not running: the information displayed may not be current"

    Ver: 5
    OS: Centos 8
    Mysql
    Apache

Is there an event viewer like on Windows that I can look through for errors?

    All help gratefully received.

    Steven

There's not strictly an equivalent to the event viewer, but there's typically both textual logs that can be view with any tool that can read text (an editor, the 'less' or 'more' commands, etc.) and for some stuff, there are also a log buffer/journal than can be read with particular commands.

Most Linux textual logs are going to be stored somewhere under /var/log . Different files have different purposes, but typically /var/log/messages will have general system logs, /var/log/secure will have security/audit/access related stuff, etc.

Your Zabbix logs are probably under /var/log/zabbix/ , and the server log is likely /var/log/zabbix/zabbix_server.log . You'll likely find useful information about why it has stopped in that file.

Also, since CentOS 8 uses 'systemd' as its replacement for init, you can also likely run

    Code:
    systemctl -l status zabbix-server.service
to output long (-l) status information on the zabbix-server service entry. That may also show some messages about why the process has stopped.
