Thinking of using Zabbix for a non-standard network.

I have been doing lots of research on Zabbix and really like what it has to offer. However, I do have a few questions that I couldn't find direct answers for and I was curious as to others thoughts/opinions.

I have a collection of non-standard networks that I would like to monitor. I say non-standard to mean that the networks are different than what the majority of you monitor, not that they are anything out of the ordinary from a networking perspective.

My networks mainly consist of agent-less devices, but lots of them. I am definitely planning on setting up a distributed model, using Zabbix Proxies at each of the remote (across the internet, many of which are unstable connections) locations to perform the monitoring and communicate back to the centralized server.

    Number of proxies = 100
Number of devices monitored by each proxy = ~2500
Maximum number of agents per proxy = ~5
Maximum disconnect time between proxy and server = ~2 weeks

Devices would primarily be monitored with ICMP ping, SNMP, and SNMP Traps.

Assuming that I am able to provide capable hardware platforms to run the proxies and server on, is there anything else that I should watch out for, or that could cause problems with my setup?

    Thank you for your help.

Hello and welcome to Zabbix forums!

Yes, interesting topic and no replies.
Well, I will not add much just that your setup is completely normal and you should go for it. With appropriate hardware and settings I don't see any problems.

Number of proxies = 100 - no problems
Maximum disconnect time between proxy and server = ~2 weeks - no problems.
One proxy can buffer up to 720 hours (30d) of data assuming it has enough disk space.

Recommended to use proxies in active mode.

      Good luck building your network!

      Best Regards,
      Ingus
