/var getting full because of zabbix_server.log and message ipv6...

    Hi,

Any idea why my zabbix_server.log is getting full with the below info

Name:	ipv6.JPG
Views:	375
Size:	324.2 KB
ID:	405659

I have already deleted/disabled anything that was mentioned as ipv6 in templates (applications & discovery rules)

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

My Zabbix 4.4.x install does not have any of those message in the zabbix_server log, so it's something specific to your environment.

It appears to be one of the standard SNMP OIDs for IPv6 routing: https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2465

Is your Zabbix server configured to receive SNMP traps from any of your network devices?

          Hi,

          @ tim.mooney

yes, it is configured to receive SNMP traps from network elements. I have added 2 MIBs (included in templates)

I cannot find why this log message is created. Is it because something is missing or because something is not configured properly.

have you tried to setup max log file size in zabbix_server.conf?

please check also debug level set in zabbix_server.conf , normally it would be set to 2

I have also tried setting up max lofile size in zabbix_server.conf. Also checked debug level set in zabbix_server.conf. It was set to 2 only. Still my zabbix_server.log is getting full with all the data. Any further help is appreciated.

manosnms you mentioned in post #5 that you have 2 MIBS "included in templates".

It seems like the problem is because of one of those two templates.

Where did those templates come from? Were they official templates, or generated with mib2template, or something else?

                  Hi @tim.mooney,

I created them with mib2zabbix.pl and import them at Zabbix.

                  snmptranslate -Tz -m /usr/share/snmp/mibs/OSPF-TRAP-MIB.mib | ./mib2zabbix.pl -o 1.3.6.1.2 -f OSPF-TRAP-MIB.xml -N OSPF-TRAP-MIB

Is there another way? should I try something else? e.g. mib2template?

One more question? Does anyone has tried any of these at Zabbix 5 ? cause I was thinking at the end to install Zabbix 4

That was the tool I was thinking of; I misspoke when said "mib2template" earlier.

As your post #10 suggests, this might be a problem with that tool (and the XML it generates) just not being valid for Zabbix 5.x There are other topics on these forums, even from today, with people that have used that on Zabbix 5 and not had good results. Your best bet is to check with the tool's author and find out if the tool has been fully tested with Zabbix 5.0.x.

I personally am very hesitant to import an XML blob into my Zabbix server unless I absolutely need to. The official templates from Zabbix.com for Zabbix 5.x are very good, but I personally don't import templates from other sources without a lot of checking. In most cases, I may review the template to try figure out what it's doing, and then recreate just the bit I need in Zabbix.

                        Hi Tim.

This prrcedure is the only i know. I had to do it since we already have all these MIBs at the current software we use. So I thought that since I have all these MIBs I can just load them at Zabbix. Of course Zabbix is not simple and you have to create templates in order to add MIBs.

Could you please provide me the link with the official templates from Zabbix? (e.g. to include also OSPF MIBs from CISCO)

                        thank you

I'm not sure why you think templates are required to use SNMP MIBs, but that's not correct. The documentation chapter on items has a section on both SNMP agent items and SNMP trap items.

There are many very good reasons to use templates with Zabbix, but my impression is that you're using the mib2zabbix.pl tool to bulk create items based on the contents of a MIB. While that sounds very convenient and I can understand why that would be an attractive option, if the tool generates incorrect XML for the version of Zabbix that you're using, it seems like you could end up with very bad problems after importing that XML. I guess I would want to make sure I had a good backup of my Zabbix database before importing XML that I hadn't carefully inspected.

The Zabbix official templates come with the initial data that's loaded into the database when you do a fresh install of Zabbix 5.x. If you've upgraded your installation from an older version, then you probably have older versions of the official templates. You can replace those with the latest official version, but be advised that any customizations you have made to the older templates would be lost. That's why upgrading doesn't automatically get you the latest templates; because you might potentially lose any customizations you've made.

The official documentation has a section on the "out of the box" templates. The link to the git site provides a nice interface to view the official templates.
