    OS to Host Zabbix

    Hi,

Am looking for help \ advice on which OS to install Zabbix onto, I would like to run something like CentOS but with a GUI like KDE or GNOME as am not 100% on all the terminal commands required to setup the Linux OS's.

Has anyone using the instructions provided by Zabbix installed Zabbix onto an OS with a GUI and if so what if anything extra was required?

    Thanks
    Karl

    Hi Karl,

    Welcome to Zabbix forums!

Sure you can install Zabbix on CentOS or Ubuntu with GUI but you still have to do lots of stuff in the command line. I can't even imagine really how would I need to do these things simplified in GUI.

I think the best way for you still would be to install Zabbix as described in some manuals available. It might be hard at the beginning but you will acquire lots of valuable knowledge by doing so.

For me I have found that Ubuntu is the most user friendly but Centos is more powerful and also is the OS of choice for majority of users. I have some step-by-step install notes somewhere. I might find them if you need.

    Best Regards,
    Ingus

        Hi Karl,

Glad you did the installation! CentOS 6.6. is a great choice. And I believe you have learned a lot!

MySQL or Maria DB is a good choice for beginning since lots of information is available in the net.

Zabbix can run on MySQL (Maria DB as a fork of it), PostgreSQL, Oracle and DB2. MSSQL cannot be used for running Zabbix database.

        Best Regards,
        Ingus
