Need help about document!

I'm a student and i'm doing a project with Zabbix but this is the first time i've worked with an Open Source Software. I don't know where to start and don't have any document about Zabbix Source Code.

One of the great things about Zabbix is that all of the documentation is online!

The installation section of the manual covers installation from packages:

I've already installed Zabbix and I run properly. However, I have to edit it's source code to upgrade some features. Which documents should I read beside Zabbix Manual?
