    Discover devices by SNMP only

    Hi there,

Just getting started with Zabbix and think I might be missing something quite obvious but can't work it out. I want to auto discover all the switches on my network but don't want to have Zabbix populated with all desktops and servers as well. I figured I just setup a discovery rule with a SNMP v2c check in there (with the correct community and an OID to start from) but this doesn't seem to be working at all, that is I see nothing under Monitoring -> Discovery. Am I missing the point somehow?

    TIA,

    Luke

I haven't tried it yet, but you might consider to define a discovery rule using one of the snmp check types instead of "Zabbix agent".

Configuration --> Discovery --> Create Discovery Rule

Next step would be to define the appropriate Actions (add host, assign SNMP template, add to host group).

Configuration --> Actions --> Create Action

I would strongly recommend to give your "SNMP-only" devices a separate subnet.

Cheers Harri, I've managed to get it working now by actually putting a correct OID into the discovery rule when settings it up.....I was missing off the final .0 which is funnily enough why it wasn't finding anything! Lesson learnt!
