Need help installing Zabbix for the first time ever

Followed this guide to the T: https://www.zabbix.com/download?zabb...mysql&ws=nginx

Using a fresh hyper-v Debian 10.5 vm. I get to step C and when I type "mysql -uroot -p" it says "ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)

Any idea what I'm missing?

/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock is created by a MySQL, MariaDB, or Percona server running on the local system. Have you installed one of those server packages (probably MariaDB or MySQL) on your system? If you've installed it, have you started the appropriate service so that the database server is running?
