    Zabbix Agent (Active) config

    Hi Folks,

I have inherited a Zabbix server and am in the process of improving the performance. I would like to move everything over to Active Agent checks (currently passive):

1 -- Agent Registration - If the hosts are already in the host list does the active agent need to be registered? i.e.
2 -- Do any firewall rules need to be bi-directional for port 10051 or just from client to zabbix server.

And can anybody point me to a guide for everything that is required to setup active checking? I think i have most of it down from searches but don't want to miss out on any silly details.

    Cheers
    Marty.

    update

    Hi Folks,

Apologies for the novel but though id update:

I went through my Zabbix Server config and added the required settings and then did the same for agent configs on 2 different servers, unfortunately i received the following error:

started to fail (cannot connect to [serverIP/hostname]:10051 [4] Interrupted system call)

My first thinking was firewall but all servers are on the same subnet. (We do not have telnet or nc installed to test the ports though )

I decided to test the Zabbix agent on the Zabbix server itself (i.e. agent talking to server on the same box). This seems to work fine and I get data in the WFE (a few not supported problems with certain checks).

Has anybody seen this error or has any ideas where i should be looking next?

    Any help would be great
    Marty.
