Zabbix monitoring httpd service via SNMP

I have use Nagios, but im forced now to use zabbix, can someone gave me some hints on how to monitor the httpd service, or any other service on a Linux Box ? What i want to achieve is to monitor the Httpd service, ipsec, pluto, etc. but via snmpv3. I already have the following....

put the "proc name-of-process" in snmpd.conf, have configured username and password etc. and i have triggered the snmpget and snmpwalk. So this part works fine. Using the UCD-SNMP-MIB:rCount MIB i have information. What i need is simple UP/Down status of the process. And can't figure out how to do it on Zabbix and what exact Mib to use it.

    Any hint/suggestion is welcome !

    Thanks

Please check some templates and recommendations on www.zabbix.org/, e.g.: https://www.zabbix.org/wiki/Docs/how...itoring_script

      Hi filipp,
Thanks for the reply, this is interesting answer, useful, but i start with httpd as example/test the whole point is for other process too, ipsec, pluto, the main point is VPN tunnel. So i like to monitor every aspect in this scenario. I have VPN tunnl between linux and ASA/Checkpoint and Sonciwall.

So i like to start monitoring my site first (the Linux site), and what i have in mind ( nagios have many plugins for this ) to start with simple checks, status of the process if they are running or not, classical local ping of the local subnets that are between the VPN tunnel and interfaces. And some how i have stuck with SNMP to check if this process is up or down.

I see the script for the appache but i will loos too much time to modify for other services.

I have the OID for the process etc. but i can't find a way to configure the item/triger/graphs for simple off and on (up or down) status information. If the result of the snmpget is > 1 then it's up if not (< 1 ) it's down.

Thanks for the reply by the way ! Any hint is welcome in this moment as i relay like to work this with Zabbix !

Typically the monitoring process in Zabbix has two(or more) parts.
First, the most important part, is collecting data. It can be get by agent, or by SNMP request, or by SNMP trap, or...(check documentation for all possible type of Item).
Then, the collected information analyzes by Triggers. Triggers compare information, collected for period of time (avg/min/max) and check if it goes beyond the limit. And send alerts/message/email to administrators.

So in your case, you can create an Item, which will collect SNMP information, and then create a Trigger, which will compare if the last() data was "0" or "1".

        Sorry for my English.
        Sincerely yours,
        Aleksey
