Clear History through API?

I want to delete all history of a particular item through the API but I can't seem to find the method to do this.

Is it possible? I want the same functionality as "Clear History and Trends" that you find on the item page in the frontend.

Couldn't find anything about this, really doesn't seem like it's possible through the API.

For my application I was able to achieve a similar result by putting my item in a new template and unlinking/linking when I want to clear the history.
