need help with uploaded templates

hi

im fairly new to zabbix, using 1.8.

when i upload a template i get the green bar telling me it succeeded, but i dont see the template when i want to attach it to a host.
am i missing something?

I have installed Zabbix and add 3 different templates from different sources. I finally get the same problem as described previously. Is there something special to do in order it to work ?

Hello and welcome to Zabbix forums!

I suspect that your imported templates might not be located in Templates group.

To check this, please go to Configuration -> Templates and look for Group dropdown menu above the actual list of templates in top right corner of the screen.

See if there are any other groups other than Templates and whether your imported templates are there. If you find your templates there, then open them and fix the grouping in Groups section.

Save the updated templates and now you should see them in the list.

Thank you Ingus for your answer and sorry for the misunderstanding of the the previous message. In fact the templates appear correctly Under templates menu. My problem is with new hosts définitions. I can link when creating a new host , the Template(s) I want. I then save the host and when entering again in the host definition, my configured templates are no more here.

What did I do wrong or what is the problem ?

Hi,

Now let's see if I understood the steps correctly:

• You open a host configuration window
• You click on Templates tab
• You select a template
• !!! Do you click the ADD link just below the template search field?
• You save the host.

Do you execute step 4 here? You must click ADD otherwise the template will not be added to the host.

When you ADD template - don't go out of this page. Just hit button UPDATE and open Host again.

I don't know why, but if I add template and then try to configure anything - added template is not saving in Host configuration. It saves only after you press UPDATE button.

Ok. Thank you Ingus & Inb. I'm for sure a new Zabbix user but I think the problem is elsewhere. Here are the steps I followed:

1) I have tried to add the templates the only way I know of (so of course select the templates then click on the Add button and finally push the Update button. But I then obtain the following error:Template "Brocade Basic" with item key "1.3.6.1.2.1.17.7.1.1.4.0" already linked to host. And then, when I quit the templates tab and enter Inside it, I see no templates linked.
2) I then tried to select both templates for this host click Add button but not Update button. I can then unlink both templates and click Update button. I finally get success. So for sure there is no more templates present Under templates button. I then tried again step 1 but get again the same error.

Perhaps the issue is not so easy to solve after all. I'm of course very interested in getting new ideas .

Thanks for the reply but I think problem is elsewhere.

In fact when I tried to add the templates Under host definition the way you described (1) Select the templates to Add (2) Click on Add button. I then have the ability to click on Unlink button so add option worked (3) Click on Update button I then get the error as the imported Template has already been added to the host. But of course when I enter again in the host definition after having quit, I still no see the templates

Hi,

It would be very nice if you could describe all your steps and error messages within the first post.

Now we see the error message you are receiving. Template that you tried to link contains an item that is already existing on a host form another template. One host cannot have two different templates which both include some items with the same key. You need to fix this conflict, remove such items from one of the templates and try again. Otherwise the template will never appear on that list.

P.S. Aleksey, Which version of Zabbix are you using? I have never noticed such thing that templates would disappear if you add them and switch to another tab in host config. Double checked that on 2.4.5 and it worked as expected. I have always filled the tabs one after another - Host data, templates, set automatic inventory and then back to host to hit the add/update button. (because scrolling down to bottom of inventory tab takes too long... )

P.S. Aleksey, Which version of Zabbix are you using? I have never noticed such thing that templates would disappear if you add them and switch to another tab in host config. Double checked that on 2.4.5 and it worked as expected. I have always filled the tabs one after another - Host data, templates, set automatic inventory and then back to host to hit the add/update button. (because scrolling down to bottom of inventory tab takes too long... )

Well, I wasn't precise in my description. I faced with the issue sometimes, when I was in rush.
The steps:
- open Host configuration
- switch to Templates tab
- select specific template
- hit ADD
- (wrong step) switch to "Discovery rules" (Why LLD is not here? I already added template! OMG! I forgot to click "Update")
- switch back to Host configuration
- switch to Templates tab
- select specific template
- hit ADD
- hit Update.
- open Host configuration
- switch to "Discovery rules"
.....

Something like that. Instead of LLD, I can jump to Triggers, or Graphs, or anywhere. It looks the same - I'm loosing template, which was "ADDed", but not "UPDATEd" in Host configuration tab

Now I see what you are talking about.
Yes, in your scenario the host configuration and added templates will not be saved because you move away to a completely different section. So it is and not likely that behavior could be change in current Zabbix frontend.
