Running Zabbix server on AWS or Azure VM

Is anyone else running Zabbix server on an AWS or Azure VM? We have VM's in both AWS and Azure. I currently have a Zabbix server running in AWS. The intent was to initially monitor servers in Azure but I'm wondering if it's best to have a proxy running in Azure? My boss is wanting to keep costs down and as you may or may not know, we get billed if the server is running so I'm going to have to try and talk my boss into the proxy idea if it makes sense to do so. Both cloud's are connected on a private network. Thanks for any advice.

Keeping in mind to keep costs as low as possible, it all depends on zabbix server health. If the zabbix server health is ok, I don't think there is a need for proxy.
If you go for best practices, that will be an entire different story.

      Hello Singularity,
When you refer to zabbix server health do you mean resource usage such as processor and memory usage, etc? I'm assuming the best practices would recommend to use a proxy in Azure? What about having a zabbix server in both AWS and Azure setup in a clustered type environment? I haven't read anything on Zabbix clustering so I'm not sure if that's even possible.
      Thanks!

        Hi cbass
Yes, if the resources( processor, memory, disk usage + other processes of zabbix are running smoothly like pollers, syncers etc ) consumed by zabbix server is not adding pressure to the system then everything is good. There is zabbix server health dashboard by default, you can check there for different values.
If we are to bridge 2 environments, placing the proxy or a new zabbix server is a good idea(enclosed in VPC, keeping environments separate)
However adding a proxy or configuring a new zabbix server would add additional system and database costs.(maintenance, upgradation, backups etc)
    Working...
