    Zabbix Windows Agent: invalid entry

    Hello all,

    I have just replaced our old Opsview install with Zabbix 2.4 and I am working to get our servers online for monitoring. I have read the docs and edited the zabbix_agentd.win.conf file accordingly. However, when I go to install the agent, I get the following error:

    Code:
    zabbix_agentd.exe [596]: invalid entry [[I]servername[/I]] (not following "parameter=value" notation) in config file C:\Zabbix\zabbix_agentd.win.conf, line 248
    The servername is entered exactly as it is listed in my computer settings and only contains letters and a dash (-). According to the docs, this should be fine. What am I missing here?

    Hello and welcome to Zabbix forums!

    Is it possible that you show the exact command how are you trying to install the agent as well as the agent configuration file?

    Best Regards,
    Ingus

      Certainly!

      Code:
      zabbix_agentd.exe --config C:\Zabbix\zabbixagentd.win.conf --install
      Code:
      #
      # Option: Hostname
      #	Unique, case sensitive hostname.
      #	Required for active checks and must match hostname as configured on # the server.
      #	Value is acquired from HostnameItem if undefined.
      #
      # Mandatory: no
      # Default:
      # Hostname=
      Hostname= GCHC-IT
      #

        You have a whitespace in the beginning of hostname.
        Code:
        Hostname= GCHC-IT
        Is that on purpose?

          No, that was just a typo. In the file itself, there is no white space.

            I'm sorry, but I'm a little bit confused.
            Your error message have a name of wrong parameter - [servername]
            Code:
            zabbix_agentd.exe [596]: invalid entry [[B]servername[/B]] (not following "parameter=value" notation) in config file C:\Zabbix\zabbix_agentd.win.conf, line 248
            But you show us Hostname parameter.
            #
            # Option: Hostname
            # Unique, case sensitive hostname.
            # Required for active checks and must match hostname as configured on # the server.
            # Value is acquired from HostnameItem if undefined.
            #
            # Mandatory: no
            # Default:
            # Hostname=
            Hostname= GCHC-IT
            #
            Do you mind to check if Servername= configured correctly? It has to contain the name(or IP-address) of Zabbix server.
            Sincerely yours,
            Aleksey

              The code from my configure file is correct. I have checked that multiple times before I posted this.

              Is this supposed to be the name of my Zabbix server or of the server the agent is configured on?

                Well, I'm not sure that I understand your question.
                In zabbixagentd.win.conf file you have three different field for "names" (IP-addresses)

                Code:
                Server=IP_address_of_zabbix_server
                ServerActive=IP_address_of_zabbix_server_if_you_have_Active_checks
                Hostname=Name_of_server_where_agent_installed.
                For example:
                - zabbix server IP = 1.2.3.4
                - zabbix agent on Client's server IP = 192.168.1.2
                - Name of Client's server = serverAD
                - Name of Host in WEB-interface of Zabbix server = serverAD

                So, you will have that three line configured like:

                Code:
                Server=1.2.3.4
                ServerActive=1.2.3.4
                Hostname=serverAD
                Sincerely yours,
                Aleksey

                  just 2 more cents:
                  You can find fresh version of Zabbix Agent installer on

                  www . suiviperf . com/zabbix/index.php

                  Sincerely yours,

                    Yes, that is how it is setup in the conf file. Still getting the error.

                    Also, those msi and exe files give me errors as well.

                      OK, you know the "windows way"
                      Uninstall and reinstall from scratch.

                      Copy old zabbixagentd.win.conf to USB stick.
                      Uninstall zabbix_agent
                      Install from any downloaded package, and configure Server IP/Hostname when you asked about it.
                      Start zabbix_agent

                      If you still will have a problem - show us .conf file and .log file.
                      Sincerely yours,
                      Aleksey

                        There is nothing to uninstall as I can't get the agent to install at all.

                          Just An Idea

                          I use this installer for all my Windows Server 2012 R2 Servers >>

                          Then I choose the zabbix agent installer zip
                          I hope that helps

                            Thanks, Gsmith, but as I stated before, both the msi and the exe error out.

                              Apparently, the install only works if I start the install after a fresh reboot of the system.

                              Thanks for your help, guys!
