    Can Zabbix monitor LAN traffic?

    Hi,

Sorry if this is a stupid question but can Zabbix monitor network traffic on our LAN on a per host/per day basis? I've done the installation but can't seem to get to this point yet? It looks a very solid bit of software and I'd like to get it working if it can help me with this?

If the answer is yes then I have a few installation questions.

    1) I've set the Zabbix server to 192.168.1.1 as this is the IP assigned to the server (we're using the Ubuntu box as a router for all the other Windows PCs). Should this be 127.0.0.1 - localhost instead?

    2) I've set up our first host, called 'server', trying both 192.168.1.1 and 127.0.0.1, using Unix_t as template. I still don't have any data - all empty as far as I can see. The database is created but I get the feeling I've missed something rather significant here. How can I test the install?

    Any help appreciated

    Kino

EDIT: Ah ok, I've just found the status screen: Zabbix server is not running - - got that working now by using 'localhost' in the server setup (for mySQL server IP).

Spoke too soon. Error next to my first host - Not available - Cannot connect to [Zabbix] [Connection refused]. I assume this means it can't connect to the database. I've tried my root password for mySQL and this doesn't seem to change anything.
