Is it recommended to have Zabbix master on vmware on a local machine? Also, if the master instance is offline would the client/server agents hold the data and sync it back to master when it is back online?

cyber I see, then if the server is gone down for a week let us say, the agents will preserve the data until the server/master server is back online, right?

Do I get it correctly... you are asking if server can be a VM or has to be real server? it can be VM.
And yes, agents/proxies can accumulate data for a while, if server is gone.

Week is a bit too much.. I guess if you really stretch it, you can get away with some hours... but definitely not for week.
