Request To Monitor MS SQL Server Agent Service (MSSQLSERVER)

Our team received a request to monitor the 'MSSQLSERVER' agent service on a production database host - to monitor its current state, (stopped or running). We were unable to find a specific template for how to monitor servers with MS SQL Server installed, nor can we find information as to how we might monitor the specific service. If any of you have run into a request like this, we would appreciate hearing from you.
